A nifty idea from the Quest Baits boys. A clear plastic tube containing four separate bait pots which can be used for carrying glugs, dips or an assortment of different hook baits.

The problem with most of the glug pots I’ve used in the past is that they are prone to leaking. This is usually caused by getting a drop of liquid in the threads of the screw cap – it then manages to work its way around the thread channels and out of the lid. By placing the tubs in an outer tube you stop all of that irritating spillage contaminating everything else in your kit.

Hello has anyone been to Commons lake in France and had any success there? What bait did you use and any tip on the place would be great.  Thanks, Jez

Commons Lake

Hi Jez,

Firstly I’d say check out the latest news over on the Angling Lines site as they are bookingn agents for this venue in northern France.

I shot the video at the venue last year when the guys really bagged up catches a stack of fish to over 40lb. We stayed on for a couple of days and my son had fish to 36lb too.

The lake contains around 175 fish from mid doubles to upper forties, nearly sixty fish to mid thirties were stocked this winter. There is a majority of commons, hence the name of the lake but there are some nice mirrors too plus surgeon and a few catfish.

A group of us are booked on Laroussi for a week in October. Can you give any advice on tackling this water? e.g. How much bait to take? best bait? Etc. It would be much appreciated.

Laroussi, 15 acres with carp to 75lb

Hi Justin,
First of all a big compliment on your choice. I would describe Laroussi as one of to premier big fish waters at the moment, lovely big fish and a very friendly owner.

I have fished Laroussi on 2 occasions. First trip was in July 2006 and the second trip was last year in May. I am booked on there again this year from 24-31 May. That’s says enough about how I rate this venue.

Recently came across your website and really like it and will be looking to use some of your baits this year. Can you give me some more details about your Quest Method Mix in terms of what it consists of and what it smells of. Any other tips on its use would be great too.
Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your query.  The Quest Baits Method mix is a very complex mixture full of various ingredients nuts, seeds etc and can be cut to make it go further or used neat. It binds together very well and can take up to 40% pellet when you mix it up.

I fish the Kennet and Avon canal. I’ve just started to use Rahja Spice boilies the inline lead is dipped in the glug and then I wrap paste on top.  The boilie is topped with plastic corn, I cast to the far bank and scatter approx 10 boilies around my hook bait. I’ve had some success with carp to 24lb but I only seem to catch 1 carp per session any help would be great.

Roy canal shotHi Karl,
I don’t live in England,so I don’t know the canal you’re fishing. But I fished on several canals in Holland, so maybe I can give you some pointers.

You had some success on the Rahja Spice so I would not change that.

Over here in Holland one of my most successful tactics is pre-baiting. I start to pre-bait a stretch of the canal 2 days before I go fishing. The stretch I talking about is 250 meters to the left and 250m to the right of my swim. Try to just flick out some bait in small quantities, ..a few in the margins, some further out. Spread a few boilies and pellets to intercept fish that come through that area. The idea is that not that one carp eats everything, but more fish find the bait and come back for it. continue reading…

Hi Shaun, I have booked a few days at Olivemead lake in May with my Grandchildren.  There are a few 30s in the lake & I understand the minimum line allowed is 15lb, The largest line I have ever used is 12lb. Has anyone any advice on the best 15lb line to use? I perfer not to use braid.  Regards Roger

Hi Roger,
I would guess that you will have a lot of different answers to this one, as it comes down to personal choice and what you have confidence in.

For many years I have used the Gold Label Tackle Pro Gold line (not the pro-clear). This is a line which is underated strength wise, by this I mean that although it states a breaking strain of 12lb it actually breaks at about 18lb even when knotted.

I have found that this line has excellent abrasion resistance and knot strength having landed carp to 49lb 14oz and catfish to 64lb 8oz on the 12lb b.s. (it really is tough as ‘old boots’). I also like the low visibilty weed green colour, which has it states is not very visible in the water. If you must use the 15lb then i would not hesitate in buying the nearest breaking strain in the pro gold.
