Hello Carl

I have been playing with this rig for a little while now, and I'm glad that you find the mechanics of it work,

It came to me last year when a couple of people where talking about how a Heli drop off rig would be good for fishing clear patches in weed etc but had nothing they could use at present so I put some time and thought in to it and came up with this and I know it is close to the way you had been thinking about things.

The other reason I thought of using it but have yet to test it would be to fish it on the far side of bars for when I want the fish up in the water fast so not to grate my line over the top of the bar as this has happened to me on quite a few occasions.

To do this I need to play with the tail rubber size a little so it will give me a fast lead drop when the fish picks up the rig, it may be an expensive use of leads but some situations require different approaches I think to give you that extra fish.

I have not really tried blasting this rig yet on a cast but I will give it a go so I know its limits but in my mind that is down to the type of PVA you use to tie of the tail, I may need to use a small bit of stretched out mesh or string instead of tape to keep the lead on in the cast if you intend on giving it some.

The lead itself has been ok on the retrieve, again once I got the Tail rubber correct as I wanted it just tight enough so I could retrieve my lead as many time as possible yet not to tight that it would not drop the lead in weed or a violent take etc.

It’s a rig possibly worth a play with, I’m not particularly a riggy person but I can find the benefits in this.

Thanks

I forgot to add that if you are getting break off's regularly then you seriously need to take a look at what you are doing wrong and perhaps seek advice.

I will also be adding another similar rig on here soon which incorporates an in-line lead and also just leaves the fish trailing a hooklink in the unforunate event of a break off.
