Here is a short Winter Carp Fishing video clip, shot in December that shows that the extra effort of moving swims can really pay off. It all goes to prove that five minutes in the right place, especially at this time of the year is better than a day in the wrong spot. The carp are there and they will feed in short spells.

Do you look for line bites in winter Shaun?
I had a season winter fishing at Higham keeping lines quite tight (still relatively light leads though), casting every 20 minutes looking for line bites. The carp seemed to shoal up in the winter at the lake (Higham Farm in Derbyshire) & I found that line bites could give me a clue as to their location. Invariably if I caught one I’d catch 3 or 4 – only low doubles but great fun on a short winter day session.
Could be frustrating at times though – I’d get lots of liners but no takes. I reckon this was when the fish were sitting mid water… guess I should have tried a zig rig?

Yes, I fish for liners in all of my fishing. Always try and keep the bobbins at half mast and I’m constantly adding or subtracting weights from the bobbins to keep them as sensitive as possible.
Once the liners start then the rigs come back a little. Carp hitting a slack line (bobbin free to rise) don’t spook as much as carp hitting a tight line (bobbin at the top).
