Reader’s Query - can you recommend a proper 2 person Bivvy?

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Initial reply By Elie Godsi

Phil Parker put the following question about ‘proper’ size 2 man bivvies that will accommodate him and his wife - plus all the gear we typically carry with us.

“On the subject of Bivvys, why do manufacturers make them so low. I’m not the tallest of people but I am finding it difficult to do any kind of adequate manoeuvring unless I’m sitting or laying down especially if the heavens open up. My two man bivvy is exactly not that, more of a one and a half, especially as I have to share with my wife. The only one I have seen is more of a tent than a bivvy and that is the Rod Hutchinson geo 2.2 super tent. This seems to have masses of room, especially for storage. Can anyone recommend anything on the market which has a substantial height and capacity for storing the plethora of gear I carry including a wife?”

Top Tips No.1 - Mask That Hook!

By Elie Godsi

Whenever I cast out any I want to be confident it doesn’t tangle and that when it settles on the the isn’t masked by any or debris. I almost always mask the with either tape or foam or both. Trapping the at the same definitely also prevents tangles. In the you can see two set ups that I use for 90% of my .

I use the Extra Wide 20mm tape from Kryston and foam nuggets from . I would be totally lost without these products, both of which melt completely and never leave any residue at all.

In the first picture the on the is a simple single bait. In this case the is masked with a few turns of extra wide tape which has been licked a bit to make it neat and compact - as you can see the is trapped at the same . This is also a good set up for distance .

by Roy Van Goor
Since I am for I never seem to use a lot of pop-ups. Its just not my

way of presenting a bait. …Well, Up to now!!.. Things started when I was discussing using pop-ups on a local meeting with another angler. He told me he was catching plenty on pop-ups on a local venue…where I had never used them

I fished that lake a lot and it got me thinking about it.I wanted to use the pop-ups in a different way, I remembered a I had seen in some book..It was an about presenting pop-ups on the , making the even better and more detectable for feeding .. I searched the sheds for the book and after I found it I had a look again at that . It would be perfect for my style of and maybe could boosted up my catch rates.. Its suits every possible , and very easy to make.. You don’t have to tie new and can change from to pop-up in a second. (more…)

Shaun Harrison replies:
Hi Richard,
I have air dried both life and frozen for re-hydration purposes. Originally I only ever used to use frozen so all of my early experiments were with these. I did prefer to freeze them down first though before starting to air dry them as this speeds the process of air . (more…)
