This long open week-end will be starting Friday 26^th and will run during the shop hours through to Sunday 28^th March 2010.

Angling started fairly long ago for me. As a child, I would follow my father every time he went tracking pikes by boat on French lake or when he went fishing roaches with live bait that smelt so lovely that it made you feel like tasting them. Being at the water’s edge makes me feel good and have a huge breath of air.

Then came that famous day on the river bank where we had settled for carp. There was a dazzling, start, a magnificent fight and, unfortunately, unhooking. This moment will be engraved in my memory for ever and that was the first of countless nights spent tracking Dame Carp on the water’s bank. I started on little brooks with superb fighting commons, then went on angling on great lakes and then on private lakes.

Today, I am 28 years and I am still looking forward to spending time at the water’s edge. Learning new techniques again and again, living new fishing situations. I am very proud of bringing my contribution to Quest Baits and being next to great anglers such as Shaun Harrison

I must say this new bait seems to have come through at an alarming rate without the usual need of adding a bit, taking a bit away, juggling ingredients used etc.

There I was working on ‘Gurkha Spice’ when I stumbled across a couple of really interesting ingredients which weren’t particularly suitable for what I was working on at the time but it so happens I had another project on the go talking to a flavour company about producing something utilising a couple of ‘special ingredients’ I had requested.

Suddenly everything married up, I did a couple of test mixes and I simply knew we were definitely onto something special. Open the bag and you get that lovely rich chocolate smell. Bite into the bait and a distinct chocolate taste starts to mingle with the subtle fish base, followed by a slight chilli bite which the carp simply love.

I take a lot of my bait inspiration from our own food chain and it seems so many people are now enjoying the chilli and chocolate combinations  in restaurants that my naturally open and wandering mind started to think of the carp.

We all know just how effective Chocolate flavours have been over the years as indeed the carp’s obvious love of a subtle chilli kick. Combine them together and the results were as I had guessed – totally instant, the carp loved the blend from the start both at home and overseas.

It has been a frustrating time sourcing one of the ingredients and we have never had a lot of it to be able to pass much of the bait around but the few who have used it have been practically begging me for more.  David Keep took the 31.02 mirror shown on the left from Genets , France, first time out last summer.

Well, the troublesome ingredient is now sorted and we have a good stock ready to ship out once we get everything bagged for the orders we have already.

As a special launch promotion we are releasing Chilli Chocolate at just £8.99 per kilo (yes you read that right – just £8.99 per kilo) and the relevant add on bits such as the Glugs, Dips, paste etc will be offered at a reduced rate too.

Demand is already very high for this bait (perhaps we shouldn’t have offered the special promotional price) so if you want to be one of the first to use Chilli Chocolate on your water it may be worth getting a order in now for despatch in the 1st week of March.

Chilli Chocolate boilies are brown in colour and containing no bulk oils they will not suffer with the age old problem of oils congealing and trapping in the other all important attractors during the cold months and more importantly this leaves the baits in an easy to digest form.

At last a boilie the carp love and what’s more – your partner won’t moan at the smell in the car!

A cold River Trent session

Yet another one for the diary – John Paley has organised an event which should appeal to all river anglers on Friday February 26th 2010 at the ‘Old Chandlery Cafe’ at Sawley Marina just off Junction 24 of the M1 motorway – Doors open at 7.15pm.

Bob Roberts will be giving his own unique illustrated talk on fishing the River Trent. Many of you will know Bob from his many years successful match fishing as well as his more recent big fish activities. Just the thing to fire you up for the last two weeks of the river season. I’ll certainly be going along and it is sure to be a very well attended event so make sure you book your ticket early by telephoning 0115 854 5244 or 0115 972 2525 (Synergy Tackle).

Tickets cost £10.00 which will include a first class buffet. There will be a charity raffle held with all proceeds to ‘Help for Heroes’

An Evening With…Julian Cundiff

One for the diaries Chapman’s Angling have organised another of their fantastic open week-ends from Friday March 26th to Sunday March 28th.
These events simply get bigger and better each year.
