by Elie Godsi If I were to ask you to come up with the ‘ultimate’ test for a new carpbait - like Shaun’s Liver B8 - what would it look like? Maybe you would fish that bait on one rod alongside your other baits and compare your captures? Maybe you could compare your results with other anglers using other brands of boilies on the lakes you fish? Maybe you could fish it on a lake that had never seen that particular bait and see what your catch rate was like. All well and good but what about the ultimate test? (more…)
I must say that James Harrison’s ‘A Different Angle’ article in last month’s Carpworld was one of the most original, contumacious pieces of no-nonsense carp-related pieces of literature I have ever read! A sweeping statement perhaps, but nonetheless, very true. I find when I read carpfishing-related articles there are often one or two points which start to fire around in my head. Could you recommend what sizehook to use with 18mm baits, I’ve been using size 8 but find i am missing lots of runs on this size
Hi Steve
That’s not quite as simple a question to answer as a lot of people might think, and it certainly isn’t straight forward.
Firstly it depends on the hook itself, as each manufacturer seems to make up their own sizes and they vary immensely. Unfortunately there isn’t a national standard hooksize to work from. For example a size 6 Korda long shank is dimensionally a much bigger hook than say a Drennan super specialist of the same size. (more…)
A nifty idea from the QuestBaits boys.A clear plastic tube containing four separate bait pots which can be used for carrying glugs, dips or an assortment of different hook baits.
The problem with most of the glug pots I’ve used in the past is that they are prone to leaking. This is usually caused by getting a drop of liquid in the threads of the screw cap - it then manages to work its way around the thread channels and out of the lid. By placing the tubs in an outer tube you stop all of that irritating spillage contaminating everything else in your kit. (more…)
