Just a real quick one here but possibly worth passing on. As many of you know I love my winter fishing and it really shouldn’t be the ordeal many seem to think it is.

Quality clothing has never been so cheap as it is now. The old saying along the lines of ‘no such thing as being cold – just the wrong choice of clothing’ is very true. After all it gets no-where near as cold here in the U.K. as it does in many other parts of the world. I’ve just glanced out my window as I wrote that to see a torrent of snow seemingly floating in the air – it looks cold but in reality it is easy to keep warm in this.

Anyway, back to the reason for tapping this piece out on the keyboard. I had packed up after an evening session the other night and back at the cars my mate had to set about removing snow and ice from his screen. which resulted in cold hands from scraping and several minutes with the can of de-icer.

I loaded my motor with my tackle, took out a flask of lukewarm water, poured it over my screen and I was ready to drive off in seconds. It is something I have done for years rather than stand there forever with a can of de-icer. My friend commented on it being a great idea so I thought I should perhaps share it on here.

Anything that makes winter fishing easier has to be a bonus.

Remember though don’t fill your flask with boiling water – you will crack your screen!

The water really only needs to be slightly warm to the touch to work instantly. So when you prepare a flask for your next short trip make a second one for your car – it is so much easier and quicker than messing around scraping snow and ice.
