I personelly leave the tackle box at home, by only taking the items you require not only will your kit stay somewhat organised throught the year but you won't be lugging all those leads etc etc, how many hooks do you really need on one session?

Servicing your reels or having them serviced is probably the best advice yet, we all punish them throught the year and hope that at the crucial moment they still work - try hand lining in a 27lb Salmon because your reels has fallen to bits after years of abuse - not funny I can tell you (not carp I know but it the only example that spings to mind!)

Many thanks Keith

I have a small Tupperware tub with a lockable lid that when I snip of any rigs or at the end of a session, I can just cut them and drop them in one small tub.

After a few sessions it ends up a mash of terminal tackle that I eventually recover and separate up any usable items and place back in to the dividers in my tackle box I find it useful a I then keep them all in one place.

You have more uses for a bucket Carl than any one I have fished with it’s a bivvy table, tackle box seat, bait container, viewing platform and Toilet all in one 24 hour period and I’m sure you have more uses for it than that.

You seem to have a bucket like a wizards hat, I go with a barrow load and forget a vital item you take a bucket and a hold all and take everything show me the way.

Yeah I know Jamie, I usually have to tidy it out two or three times throughout the year as it gets rather messy. Most of the time I'm rumaging around my bucket or bag for the odd swivel or piece of tubing etc.

I tend to just throw things in here and there whenever I find fish moving or feeding, or I'll cut a rig off if it's not suitable when I'm in a hurry and then that will go the same way, thrown in somewhere.

I usually get away with the catapult elastic as I throw most of my bait in by hand.

Carl that tackle box is far too well organised LOL
My garage is like a permanent bomb site with bits and pieces everywhere.

Interesting that you pointed out what seems a sudden waking up of nature, Just the other week I noticed for the first time this year that the birds are singing in the mornings and that it is now getting light as I make my way to work.

I clean my reels with an old toothbrush (great for getting in all the nooks and crannys). I send my reels back to Daiwa for servicing (about £9 each) and I know Shimano offer the same service which is well worth the money.
Great advice about those little items such as swivels, tail rubbers, safety clips etc
On a recent trip I needed my catapult for the first time since last autumn and found the the elastic had perished I was far from amused.

Cheers

Hi Carl, I agree its nice to give your kit an annual spring clean, especially getting any method mix off your reel seat and Rod handles, mine are a pest as they are cork and can take some scrubbing, On cleaning my reels I find a bit of Vaseline can be useful to apply to any threads and spool spindle I only apply it lightly so as not to end up collecting grit on it, it can help to keep those threads clean and lubricated for your reel handles and spool fixings.
