Finally managed to get out for a few hours this afternoon. I’ve been getting a little stir crazy not being able to wet a line but with the week-end totally put aside for the Brentwood Carp Show which was cancelled I found myself with some spare time to get out.

With snow falling from the sky my neighbours must have thought I was a little silly loading my gear up in the Land Rover but you know what it’s like a man has to do what a man has to do….

Had a bit of fun and games slipping and sliding my way down the long track to the river but eventually found myself trying to get my sticks into a very frozen river bank.

I’d like to say I caught a massive fish but I can’t. I did have a savage take on a Chubby Chop with a six bait stringer but unfortunately missed it. As some one once said there is much more to fishing than catching fish. I thoroughly enjoyed going through the motions and surprise surprise there was not another angler to be seen.

Conditions were bitterly cold – I daren’t take the water temperature for fear of putting me off. I sat it out into the dark and wound in around 5.30pm with snow settling on me and my eyes stinging from the strong northerly wind, fishless but very content.

The fireside looks quite appealing now – I guess that’s the next place I will set up :-)

Anyone else been out?
