Hi Fred,

Hi Fred,

I don't think you are missing an awful lot at the minute but they will kick in big time soon.

I was talking to Archie Braddock yesterday and he was quite excited that a friend of his actually had two bites and hooked them both last Saturday.

Unfortunately both fish (both were decent fish) came adrift before he could land them. This is proof really how finicky they are being. But, wild creatures need to feed to survive - just hope I am there when they decide to turn on and gorge themselves.

Best fishes

I was tempted to trip off down to the Trent for the chub and maybe the chance barbel, but the thought of the mile long lane in my Skoda put me off a bit!
I'll wait for the melt to get out of the river and chance my arm then.
Putting up a light fitting yesterday just about did my DIY, in the meantime I'll watch the birdlife around the feeders!

Hi Shaun mines a perfect case of a fisherman getting his fishing head on and not seeing the carnage in front of him. Now I've got a big project on my hands. I blame the lack of a close season when I used to get the DIY done.

Think I'll pass on the DIY blog its bad enough doing it :)

Cheers Ron

Missed out on my return yesterday. Started painting the stair walls and ended up taking much longer than I anticipated - didn't think it a wise move to be driving down slippery tracks in the middle of no-where in the dark, in the snow.

Got plenty of my own DIY still to do yet Ron. Classic case of spending too much time enjoying ourselves on the bank rather than look after the house. Suddenly everything needs doing - but I have now made big in-roads into it.

Perhaps we should start a DIY slot on the Blog!

Hi Shaun when you've finished with the spirit level, nip them round to my house and you can help me level up the new worktops in the kitchen

I've caught chub and barbel in similar conditions. On quite a few occasions I've caught when the landing net was frozen to the ground. Wish I'd had a thermometer with me , it would have been interesting to know the water temperature

Cheers Ron

Caught Chub in similar conditions but not barbel. Used to catch the carp when the power stations were pumping warm water but that seems to be a thing of memories now.

It was the maiden voyage for the sticks and bars because I couldn't find my Delkims to screw into my normal river set up (Delkims have since tuned up - I had left them at someones house).

Haven't used this type of goalpost set up before on the river but must admit to being really impressed with them once I managed to actually get one stick in the frozen ground.

You've made a cracking job of them mate - pity no-one was around to see me slowly turning into a tackle tart. I even ended up with the spirit levels straight! LOL

Hi mate

Fancied going for a few hours myself today but once the snow started falling again I thought better of it.
If you were slipping and sliding down the track in your Landrover then I doubt the Laguna would have made it down the track anyway.
Have you had much success with the chub and barbel in these sort of conditions and temperatures in the past.
I tend to start scratting about for my predator gear once the snow falls.

How did the bars and sticks hold up?

Cheers
