Hi everybody
Just like to add 2p's worth, great comments and i agree very much especially with Jamie. I have just moved from solid pva bags to the stick type pva which was ok but had trouble getting a tight stick with the action pellets to get that volcano effect, anyway to cut a long story short while waiting for your stockist in Andover to get the quest range in i ran out ( which annoyed me ) BUT i went back to an old range that i used ssssh dynamite and they have made a stick mix to go with their boilies which was great, of course i had to play i added the few action pellets i had left ( liver b8 ) and did a test in the pot i use for ballanceing my rigs and bait, fantastic and while i don't know if there is any pellet in the mix the attraction over the old solid pva bag full of pellet well no contest, and a nice tight presentation. With that explosive effect. Next experiment will be with your method mix and try and make an explosive stick mix from it, or maybe you would think about making a dedicated stick mix for your range to complement your already fantastic maximum action pellets, and not a high oil trout pellet in sight, and something every angler can have total confidence in. After thought maybe you could tweek the action pellets to give different break down times package them in the different breakdown times and that would make the trout pellet boys think or at least give a different approach to bags full of different trout pellets with different break down times and polluting our smaller waters.
                               Cheers Ian

I have done a fisheries management course at sparsholt college and have seen fish under the microscope, high oil pellets are a major contributor to premature fish mortality due to the oil content and this is why a lot of fisheries are banning the indiscriminate use of pellets. To see a fish with a huge amount of fat around the gut, reducing the essential organ size , it isn't difficult to understand why. Anglers are their own worse enemy as they demand catching large fish as often as possible, it no longer is about angling skills. I use pellets but use small amounts and am very careful as to the content of the pellets i use. You also have to remember that the oils in the pellets go rancid after a few months and some anglers are buying in bulk and keeping them for long periods, so the pellets they are introducing into the water could be detrimental to fish welfare

Very informative article, i agree with everything said. I think something worth mentioning is that pellets are produced as feed for all manner of livestock, not just fish. It is possible to buy bulk amounts of pellets from wholesalers very cheaply, however pellets intended for poultry, pigs, horses or cattle, although identical in appearance are definately unsuitable for fish. These cheaper products can have hormones and proteins added which wil actually harm any animal other than those they were produced for..... despite this, because of their low cost they can and do find there way into our lakes and rivers!!

Hi Shaun

Great advice!
I am in full agreement with everything stated.

I have fished a few venues where pellet bans have been in place and when you question the Bailiff as to the reason why, they generally cannot give a reasoned response.

They ban pellet, yet they dont ban groundbait containing virtually the very same ingredients. Add a bulk food fish oil to this and you are creating the same effect.

Is it just a coincidence that the average weights of virtually every species of coarse fish in the country has increased dramatically over the last 15 years.

Just look at how many more double figure Barbel are in the Trent now, and how much easier it is to catch a 20lb carp. None of these fish look unwell to me.

We have never had it so good, and one of the main reasons for this is the quality food baits they are being given.

Cheers
