Really enjoyed this. Great advice to the person who hasn't got a lot of time and nice to see you got your priorities right! Mind you... a bottle of wine in there would be nice! purely carping not camping :-)

Excellent piece Carl. It always surprises me how few anglers put in the effort of quick overnighters. I have caught lots of bunus fish this way and must admit to feeling rather smug with myself at work when I have started the day with a nice fish.

I must admit that these days I tend to only do this on the more difficult type waters. The older I get the more it takes it out of me if I am likely to have to get up more than a couple of times during the night.

So many waters produce at first light and a big percentage of the year you can enjoy a full nights sleep - be woken hopefully by a carp. Then wind in and go to work! It takes a little effort but once in the rythm of it everything becomes second nature.

I did smile at the bit when you mentioned hooking fish in the final moments. Been there a few times myself, dragging the fishing time out past the time I should really be getting off. Lots of early morning white knuckle driving but with some great memories.
