I usually start with one longer than the other and swap them over so different lengths are being fished in different areas until action is received. It then depends upon the size of the fish being fished for and the type of hook-hold I achieve as to whether I feel I need to give them more rope so to speak or tighten it down.

The larger the fish the slightly longer the hook link.

As a general rule of thumb for the type of thing you are describing I would start off with around 20-30cm but keep altering until action is received.

Hi Shaun,
How do you choose the lenght of your Combi and Revers Combi Rigs?
In cold waters (temperetures between 6 and 10 degrees Centigrade), silty lake bed (10 to 15 cm) and leads between 30 and 50 grams, how long the rigs should be?
Regards,
Adrian, Romania.

Hi Shaun,
Over the last few seasons fishing very clear lakes i have used flourocarbon hooklengths more and more. Although i haven't used them in the form of the combi-link (just flourocarbon), i have still found the use of an ultra soft hair is so much better and so totally agree with your findings.
The soft material against the wieght of the hook and stiffness of the florocarbon definately creates an effective pivot point and is worth the little bit of extra effort in tying up the two different materials.

           Cheers,
                      Pat
