Just spent a -end in real heavy winds. the Cambridgeshire I am seems to always have a gale blowing across it. I guess because of the of the place 1 3/4 mile around the bank then the builds up more momentum across it than it would appear to do on smaller sheltered lakes. Also Cambridgeshire isn’t the sort of place you go off on a hill walking or mountaineering holiday - it is pretty flat. (more…)

Reader’s Query - What bait to use in France

On the 20th July Neil put this question to the bloggers:
Hi im going on my first trip to les telliats at end of september what
bait would you recomend i take and what ?

Well Neil, this question has been asked before and Shaun answered the question the last time. Having been to many times before myself, I would say take the that you feel most confident in using in this country.

The on virtually every venue in receive far more pressure than the majority of venues in England. With a large proportion of the commercial fisheries in having full or atleast constant bookings for around 30 consecutive weeks a year, then it stands to reason that these are atleast as wary as the we try to catch back home. Wading and Bait Placement.

There are many options for accurate baiting and bait presentation. Probably one of the most neglected is wading out your baits to give you that perfect presentation. On 90% of waters this will not be possible, due to depth, silt or wading restrictions, but if it is possible then why not give it a try.23lb 8oz mirror caught on a  20mil shelf life Rahja Spice bait, placed over 6 individual frre offering of the same.

 

On a local that I the depths of the waters quantify the use of chest waders. With depths of around 3 to 3 ½ feet, getting in the in chesties is not a problem.

Prior to this I would have already have done my plumbing work with a marker float to ensure that wading is possible.

Care still has to be taken as there a some large areas of deep silt and . I initially take out my landing net handle to use as a prod to ensure that I am not walking into a silt hole or walking off or onto a ledge..

Now there may be some of you that are horrified that that I am disturbing the from the margins and scattering them to the far end of the . Most lakes, as with the one that I am talking about, are used to graze cattle etc.
