I have just started fishing a new water with a large head of carp to 28lb. It has seen little carppressure and hardly any boilies, however it does get fished for the large bream that live in the lake. The depth varies from 5ft to 18ft, could you give some advice as to how the bloggers would go about fishing for the carp.

Good question this one and one which could be answered in many different ways.
My approach to any new water if the waterclarity allows is to put small traps of bait in likely looking areas then keep walking around the venue until either I am lucky enough to stumble upon a few fishfeeding or until it becomes clear that the carp don’t particularly visit the margins during daylight hours.
If I’m lucky enough to find fish I can then experiment to find what sort of baits the fish prefer rather than going in with the bait I want to use.(more…)

For Roy van goor, following on a great response from a message answered on 28th March, just wondering how your session went on Laroussi, and if you’ve any extra advise.

Hi Richard,
I have air dried both shelf life baits and fresh frozen for re-hydration purposes. Originally I only ever used to use fresh frozen baits so all of my early experiments were with these. I did prefer to freeze them down first though before starting to air dry them as this speeds the process of air drying. (more…)
by Elie Godsi If I were to ask you to come up with the ‘ultimate’ test for a new carpbait - like Shaun’s Liver B8 - what would it look like? Maybe you would fish that bait on one rod alongside your other baits and compare your captures? Maybe you could compare your results with other anglers using other brands of boilies on the lakes you fish? Maybe you could fish it on a lake that had never seen that particular bait and see what your catch rate was like. All well and good but what about the ultimate test? (more…)
