Hi, I am going to Jonchery, France, in August ‘08 and I’m just wondering what flavour boilies and pellets you would recommend to take as I have never fished in France before.  Thanks very much

Hi Paul,
I haven’t fished Jonchery but have seen the lake. Certainly if I were going myself I would take either Liver B8 boilies or the Special Crab (or both) at that time of the year and back them up with the Garlic Feast particle mix. continue reading…

31lbs PB commonIf I were to ask you to come up with the ‘ultimate’ test for a new carp bait – like Shaun’s Liver B8 – what would it look like?

Maybe you would fish that bait on one rod alongside your other baits and compare your captures? Maybe you could compare your results with other anglers using other brands of boilies on the lakes you fish? Maybe you could fish it on a lake that had never seen that particular bait and see what your catch rate was like.

All well and good but what about the ultimate test? continue reading…

Hi Pat,
Hope you don’t mind me mailing you, have picked up your mail address from the Quest baits website. I have posted a blog along the same lines as this but I was wondering if you could recommend one of Shaun’s baits for barbel along with a pellet. I am fishing the Ouse around Bedford this year for the big girls and wanted something they have not seen before and could start putting in to get them used to it. Any recommendations?
Many thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick

Living in Wolverhampton I am central to a number of rivers and the ones that I have fished for the last two winters (whilst using Quest) were the Lower Severn, the Upper Trent, the Warwickshire Avon and the River Dove. None of the stretches are particularly prolific but in general the average size of the fish is pretty good, although nowhere near as good as yours will be on the Ouse at Bedford. continue reading…

I’m going to France at the end of April and have just found out it’s a boilie and fake bait water. What do u think would be best to take with me?

Hi Andy,

At the end of April I wouldn’t hesitate to take the Special Crab and or the new Liver B8 as the boilie choice. As far as artificial baits are concerned I use many different types and always carry a selection with me.

We sell the Enterprise Tackle ones here at Quest Baits and I have personally done particularly well in France with the yellow/green artificial Boilie fished over the top of a conventional boilie ‘snowman style’. Simply changing the colour of the top bait (I refer to them as sight bobs) can often make all the difference and tempt a few bonus carp.

Good luck and best fishes – Shaun
