Hi Martin

I assume you will be targeting rather than . Not knowing the in question makes answering a bit vague but here goes.
I would certainly recommend a strong braided such as 25lb Silkworm or similar, if you prefer coated braid then you won’t go far wrong with Korda .  In my experience certainly aren’t rig shy and basic heavy gauge set ups will suffice.  I would use hooklinks of at least 18″ and about 4ft leadcore leaders.  Assuming the reels are supplied then I would imagine they will be spooled up with line around 18lb. Hookwise I would suggest size4 minimum and would recommend either Korda LongshankX (tough as old boots) or R2 hooks.  There is no need for clever blowback rigs or even shrink tubing as a basic no knot knot will be fine. Alternative methods

Just got back from a day session on a local water of mine and have managed to surprise myself by the amount of thought that was given to my baiting tactics. I was only there for what could only be described as a few hours but I probably spent an equal amount of time deciding on and preparing the bait. Just thought I’d mention two approaches I used, which I’m positive is nothing new to anyone but sometimes overlooked in favour of new and improved methods.

is a brilliant but underused and when used the results can be devastating. There are loads of self pastes on the shop shelves you can buy these days but it still can be a minefield choosing the right one. The one I go for is Quest Baits Fruity , a I can use all year round that doesn’t let me down even in these colder months of the year. I like to wrap 15mm with on my alongside small balls mixed with the pellet in a bag.
