Every now and then you find a bit of kit that makes life so much easier that you wonder how you ever managed without it. If you use a lot of PVA in your fishing then I think you’re going to like this little product. What I call the ’mega towel’ made by a company called Tiemco in Japan. (more…)

I have just started fishing a new water with a large head of carp to 28lb. It has seen little carppressure and hardly any boilies, however it does get fished for the large bream that live in the lake. The depth varies from 5ft to 18ft, could you give some advice as to how the bloggers would go about fishing for the carp. Shaun Harrison replies:
Good question this one and one which could be answered in many different ways.
My approach to any new water if the waterclarity allows is to put small traps of bait in likely looking areas then keep walking around the venue until either I am lucky enough to stumble upon a few fishfeeding or until it becomes clear that the carp don’t particularly visit the margins during daylight hours.
If I’m lucky enough to find fish I can then experiment to find what sort of baits the fish prefer rather than going in with the bait I want to use.(more…)
It has been known for some time now that leadweights are detrimental to the environment, effecting our waters, fish and bird life. We don’t know for sure what the future consequences of this will be. Lead is a toxic metal that, in sufficient quantities, has adverse effects on the nervous and reproductive systems of animals. Found in most weights, this metal is poisoning wildlife. In addition to its impact on water, lost leads and the use of drop off rigs can create a burden on the environment. In Denmark, companies are now prohibited from inporting and marketing any product containing lead for commercial fishingequipment, this went in to effect in 2002. How long is it before it hits the UK?
I decided to book a week away in France on a lake that holds big fish and the chance of landing a few good carp, so I called David from Angling lines and asked his advice. He talked extensively about Laroussi and convinced me this was the lake I was looking for, so I booked up for the last week in March. I set about doing all my homework for the lake from the Angling lines website, which was full of useful hints and tips. Then it was time to sort out what bait I was going to take with me so I called Shaun at Quest baits and decided to use liver B8 as a new bait for this year.
I headed off to France on a Quest to catch a big Common, armed with liver B8, 10-15mm shelf life boiles, there was no stopping me, car all loaded for the week. It took 3 ½ hours to reach Le Mans from Roscoff travelling through temperatures down to - 4°C and encountering the odd snowstorm along the way. When I reached Laroussi the temperature had crept up a little to 1°C with the odd heavy downpour but that didn’t put me off! (more…)
