Summer or winter, weedbeds are well worth a serious look at as being a good holding area for carp. I’ve found that clear spots in the weed are often a good area to put your hookbait – especially on a short session. I’ve fished a lot of very weedy waters, both here and on the continent, and most of the time I find takes occur during the hours of daylight from these clear spots.
When fishing to clear spots amongst weed, it’s important that caution is taken not to move the lead and rig after casting. If the rig is moved the hook may get masked by the weed, and there will be

less chance of a fish getting hooked. I find a solid PVA bag cast out to the clear area to be a great tactic, it ensures your rig does not get caught up in the weed.

When I get a run, I take a lot of care playing the fish back through the weed, as long as you take your time and apply steady pressure you should get them though and safely on the bank. If the carp does get stuck in the weed, put your rod down until the line starts to spin off again. It might take several minutes but this method works well for me.
