| Not long started, absolutely loving it
Date:
Dec 2007 Name: Nick Thomas Email: nick@nvod.co.uk Venue: Woodhouse Derby
Details: Well one day I jokingly said to my friend I would go fishing with him so with his spare rods in hand I went with him, a very foggy cold morning, it was beautiful, the day got started he explained how things worked and got me casting, well bitten by the bug, I have been eaten up and swallowed, I have just turned 30 and with Christmas as well I have had loads of fishing gear, I love this sport and hope to continue for a long time to come. So just a quick report to say that my personal best is only a small one a 6.5lb common but to me it was a monster that I managed to bring in on my own, what an amazing feeling. I will try to keep up the reports as I think that all the advice that I have received from other anglers is great and has been a great help.

| A look at 2007 on Quest Baits
Date:
Dec 2007 Name: Paul Fletcher Email: Venue: Assorted
Details: Hi Shaun
Its that time of year when I look back on my years fishing - amazing how times flies! I know I've kept in touch all year but I thought it worth giving you a few highlights as I sit here with crappy cold weather outside -
A challenging year to be honest, settling into the new house (loads of jobs to do!) and also moved into a new position at the bank - too much work and not enough play I'm afraid!
Late winter was great as you know with big chub and barbel falling to the Rahja Spice baits. However I also enjoyed a good Spring including a successful trip to Angling Lines Holidays venue Le Glehias - 20 carp landed to 37lbs in horrible weather conditions. The catch included the lakes 2 biggest inhabitants - Halle and Golddigger both couldn't resist my Rahja Spice hookbait topped with a Pineapple Pop up!
Back to the UK and some success on the Quest Baits method mix with numerous good tench from my local lake. They really homed in on the masses of top quality ingredients in the mix. Plus I was able to personalise it with some Maximum Action Pellets, broken Fruity Trifle boilies and some lovely, stinking, dead maggots!! One particular short morning session resulted in 8 fish over 6lbs - they just could get enough of it - even my 5 year old son William was catching them!
The summer was a challenge with all the rain. However still managed to land a few nice barbel to over 13lbs on Special Crab + boilies from the Upper Trent but it was back to basics given that the massive floods had changed the features on many pegs. Sunken snags had gone and gravel beds moved - incredible really.
In addition I have been chasing some big carp from a huge water (200+ acres) not too far from where I'm sat. This venue is much larger than my usual haunts however I've seen some massive carp whilst walking my dogs. The problem is that hooking them is proving a massive challenge due to the vast size, unfishable areas and 'millions' of bream which seem to find the bait first. Don't worry though, I'll keep trying next Spring and keep you posted!
Liver B8 - I've had some good results on your new Liver B8 boilie. Nothing massive as the venues I've tried it on contain small to medium sized carp however its been instant and the carp love it. Not tried it on the rivers yet but plan to get some paste from you in the New Year to see what the barbel and chub think of it!
Trips this winter have been few and far between however I managed to 'winkle out' a nice 11lbs 5oz barbel last week. The old faithful Rahja Spice working well together with a small PVA bag of matching Maximum action Pellets.
So that's another year gone - some great results and enjoyable trips despite the challenges.
Thanks as ever for all your support and the excellent quality bait.
See you on the bank in 2008!
Merry Christmas
Cheers
Fletch
PS - In addition to the fish photos I've enclosed my favourite fishing photo of 2007. My son William enjoying our wonderful sport - great to see another angler and a long term customer of Quest Baits I'm sure!!

| Floodwater Barbel
Date:
Dec 2007 Name: Pat Gillett Email: pat.gillett@ge.com Venue: Lower Severn
Details: Hi Shaun,
Fished the Lower Severn for the first time this season last Friday (7th Dec) afternoon. The river was about 6 inches from the top of the bank where I was fishing when we started, and rose about a foot while we there. I ended up with 6 barbel in the 8 hour session. The best three being 10lb 9oz, 9lb 2oz & 8lb 8oz. Apart from one small fish which fell to flavoured luncheon meat all the other fish came to the special crab plus boilie / paste combination. There was only one other small fish caught from the stretch on that particular afternoon.
Instead of the usual anglers pose I have attached a different photograph, which was taken basically to get the fish back in the water as soon as possible due to the treacherous underfoot conditions.. The net has 36” arms.
Also attached is a 5lb 6oz chub caught a couple of weeks ago from the river dove on the raja spice ready made plus paste.
Regards,
Pat Gillett

| Update so far - Personal best's all round!
Date:
Nov 2007 Name: Lisa Mills Email: Venue: Local Pit
Details: Hi Shaun
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
I have attached a pic of the 20lb 12 mirror I caught.
I am on the same PB as my partner Kevin now, so its going to be the first to over 21lb!!!
I think the last time I spoke to you my PB was 17lb 6oz in August.
The last time we saw you at the end of August to collect the bait for Kev's brother coming over for the weeks fishing I beat my PB with an 18lb 8oz mirror on 6/9/2007 and i then got the 20lb 120z mirror on 22/9/07!!!!!
Kev's brother beat his PB with a 21lb on his first day fishing on your bait that we got for him, so he was well chuffed.
I Will tell Kevin about your new size 10mm boilies tonight when he gets home from work. Also looking forward to trying your new pop-ups in the spring as well.
Kind Regards
Lisa

| Count on Quest Baits in tough conditions!
Date:
Nov 2007 Name: Ian Davenport Email: ian_davenport@hotmail.com Venue: Norfolk Day Ticket Lake
Details: Hi Shaun,
Again I travelled from Essex to Norfolk with nothing more than Rahja Spice shelf lifes and Mini Mixed Pellets. I was told on arrival to the lake that not much had been coming out and after speaking to many anglers that they had no joy. I used same tactics as before when I caught my PB of 27lb (earlier in the catch report - oct 07), I managed to lure this lovely specimen on a cold early morning in November, making me yet again a happy man and always being able to count on Quest Baits in tough conditions
Many thanks
Ian

| A week in the fog at Petite St Cristophe
Date:
Oct 2007 Name: Paul Cooper Email: paulcooperscfc@aol.com Venue: Petite St Christophe
Details: Pat Gillett and myself had the pleasure of spending the second week of October 2007 at Petite St Christophe.
We arrived at the lake in a blanket of fog on the Saturday morning and departed the following Saturday also in thick fog. The fog cleared most lunch times but dropped again shortly after dark. With high pressure and temperatures varying from 22 and 7 degrees there was no call for heavy baiting. We both set up on the gentle sloping gradient that leads down to the waters edge in front of the lodge.
I caught all my fish over a small bed of hemp, and a scattering of 10mil shelf life Rahja Spice boilies, all off 1 rod in 3 metres of water at the bottom of the far margin shelf. The carp would only take a 10mil shelf life Rahja Spice boilie topped with a 12 mil pink pop up.
I had a 31lb 8oz common, mirror carp of 28lb 12oz, 27lb 8oz, 21lb and 5 other carp ranging from 12lb to 19lb.
Pat had his fish with no loose fed bait, just a single 15mil Rahja Spice topped with a 12 mil pink pop up, again just on the base of the drop off to the right hand margins. Pat had a 34lb 10 oz common, a 33lb mirror which came to his rods twice in twelve hours along with 3 other upper doubles.

| Tough week at Laroussi but a couple of biggies
Date:
Oct 2007 Name: Elie Godsi Email: elie@godsi.freeserve.co.uk Venue: Laroussi
Details: Hi Shaun
Just got back from a tough week on the wonderful Laroussi in France. We had the first frosts of the year on the first two nights, high pressure with warm days and a sharp NE wind all week. It was never going to be easy but I still managed to bank a couple of biggies. My ninth carp over forty pounds since I've been using your bait in the lovely form of a beautifully proportioned 47lb 3oz mirror on a fruit trifle pop up over a small bed of trifle freezer baits in 15mm. I also lost another big carp to a hook pull not far from the net - nightmare! On the last night I had one of the huge sturgeon at 58lb 8oz on a crab boilie over a few freebies and the matching pellets. Animal fight!
Thanks again.
Elie

| The year so far
Date:
Oct 2007 Name: Jamie Simpson Email: jamie.simpson1@ntlworld.com Venue: Various midlands still waters
Details: Hi Shaun
I thought it about time I sent you a report on my catches so far this year.
As you know most of my fishing has been done locally this year due to the arrival of Lucas. I have really enjoyed revisiting a couple of local water that I havent fished for many a year.
The year got off to a flyer really with a few fish to 29lb 6oz before spring had even arrived. As usual the Rahja was producing the goods.
On to the summer and the fishing really was going well for me. From a variety of venues in the local area I managed a good few fish on the Liver B8 and Rahja spice.
As the Autumn has arrived the fishing has got pretty prolific really with 9 fish on my most recent trip, topped by a 29lb 8oz mirror on the Fruity Triffle. This fish was from the same venue as the 29lb 6oz and with the fish that Mark Scholes caught at 29lb makes up the three largest residents in the lake. All on different Quest Baits. I think that speaks volumes about the quality of all the baits in the range.
Cheers
Jamie

| Personal best on Tiger Nut Crunch
Date:
Oct 2007 Name: STEPHEN WRAY Email: steve_wray2002@yahoo.com Venue: TWYNERSH FISHERY
Details: first time I had fished the lake and landed this lovely carp which is my new pb, beating my previous one by 3lb.
The fish was the only one from a 3 day session, after taking advice from the bailiff I moved swims and casted out to a gravel bar 40 yards out.
At around 7pm I started to get a few line bites but no runs, at 10pm I had a screamer on the righthandside rod and landed a superb common.
I would just like to thank Quest baits for making this happen for me the tiger nut cruch boilies are a superb product and I cant praise the quality of the boilie enough.
Keep up the good work, I'll definatly be using the baits again, and purchasing other flavours too
thanks

As the early evening took hold three fish were caught from the syndicate lake:
A 29.08 Common to another member and to me:
20.12 Common and a 36.08 Mirror both to a 20mm 'Spice' bait over chopped boilies at 30 yards to rushes.
Terrible photo unfortunately.

| What the **** are you?
Date:
Oct 2007 Name: Tom Craven Email: fishski@tiscali.co.uk Venue: Essex Lakes
Details: A lovely day marred by this creature weighing just over 28lb.
Two barbel rods; two Aerial Centrpins and a bag of Rahja Spice & Crab Plus 15mm boilies caught me bream and carp up to 18lb + until this monster gave me a twenty minute battle.
It wasn't until it jumped at me from out of the water did I realise what I had hooked and in true Schwarzenegger style I shouted out "What the **** are you?" before unhooking, weighing and vowing never to return!!
If this is what Quest baits catch then I might have to change suppliers :)

| Massive Sturgeon
Date:
Oct 2007 Name: Jim Kelly Email: jim.kelly@staffordshire.gov.uk Venue: Long Lake
Details: I went on a weeks fishing holiday to Long Lake in France (a new angling lines venue). What a fantastic venue.I caught carp steadily all week on Rajha shelf life baits, but the highlight of the week was a massive sturgeon. I was sitting chatting when I had a fantastic run and a large sturgeon exploded out of the water. This fish really did have some power. I managed to bring it to the side several times, but each time the sturgeon powered off on an unstoppable run of over 100yards. After about half an hour of arm wrenching action it finally started to tire. I could clearly see it in the clear deep water and it was at least 5 foot long. How was I going to land it, my 42" landing net was no where near big enough. My mate arranged our unhooking mats at the waters edge and I steered it towards them until it was possible to grab the fishes tail. The fish was slid onto the unhooking mats and was finally landed after something like 45mins. What a fantastic fish. My weighsling was not large enough I therefore weighed it in my unhooking mat and it went 66lb, less the mat made it 61lb 4oz, fantastic. I didn't realise until later that my digital scales only went to 66lb. All I can say is that the fish was at least 61lb 4oz. If you haven't caught a large sturgeon you are missing out. The fight from this fish was awesome. I will remember the fight for a very long time. Thanks Shaun, Rajha is an awesome bait

| If you are looking for an Edge - Get on the Rahja's!
Date:
Sep 2007 Name: Peter Smith Email: Venue: Goncourt Lac Saul
Details: Hi Shaun,
I was fishing at Lac Saul on the Goncourt complex from Sat' 14th to sat 21st September. I was fishing to the far margins with Rahja Spice boilies over chilli hemp and sweetcorn.
I managed to catch 23 carp over 30lb up to 38lb and 26 carp over 20lb and 1 double.
Looking back at previous catches the weeks before no one came near to this and I put it down to location and a very very good bait which is very different to many of the boilies out there at the moment. I had fished in England with this bait before the holiday and results where good on all my local waters.
So, I would tell anyone - if your looking for an edge get on the Rahja's quick. Once again, cheers to all at Quest Baits
