July 2009
Another river fishing season has just started and with it we have released our new keg shaped ‘Barbel Chops’ which are equally as effective for carp as they are for barbel, chub and tench. The background attractor system used has been responsible for some great barbel captures from a very wide range of rivers and has always proven to be instantly acceptable to the fish without the need to wean the fish onto them. Available shelf-life or fresh/frozen we know these will be responsible this year for a lot of captures.
The shape is similar to the many pellets which get fed into our waters these days and also lends itself ideally for moulding a outer casing of paste to.
The Spod mixes and Micro Feed we told you about on our last Newsletter have both become real popular and it is interesting hearing the different ways our customers have been incorporating them into their own fishing. I had a lot of success last winter combining our Maximum Action Pellets with the Micro Feed in small PVA Mesh Bags. The Pellets break down quickly giving a quick blast of cloud and flavour whilst the Micro Feed releases its flavour much slower and remains in its fish spawn type state.
Naturally having done so well through the colder months with the above method I have continued to use this as the weather has warmed and the carp have continued to come.
We now have more shops than ever on board which has got to be good news for you the customer making it easier to be able to purchase our baits and keep a little consistency going in your fishing.
I am writing this just after the longest day of the year (longest daylight hours) and it is very hard to believe the nights will now start to get longer again but with it we have some exceptional fishing months to come.
With the temperatures soaring definitely take a look at the Garlic or Rahja Feast as a background feed to your boilies. We are moving towards the time of the year where particles really come into their own for encouraging carp to simply start having a root around and a feed. Combine the Garlic Feast with the Special Crab, the Liver B8, Smokey Fish or the Surf ‘N’ Turf and you really have got a seriously proven combination. Or, if you want to spice things up a little try fishing the Rahja Spice Boilies over the Rahja Feast or Seed – the carp love them!

A fish from under my feet! |
Again I have been rather lucky in my own fishing over the last few weeks with a couple of multiple fish captures from Grenville before the season ended there at the beginning of June. Since then I have been pottering around on a couple of local waters and managing to trick the odd fish on my usual short 2-3 hour after work sessions. I even fished my first match ever. Unfortunately the weather was right against us with blistering conditions but it didn’t stop me catching the largest carp of the match! I hooked it at day break in water only just deep enough to cover it right under my own bank.
The venue the match was held on is constantly under a lot of pressure so I used my old trick of putting the bait where a lot of baits would be removed from the hair and thrown in. Rarely do the carp come across a rig right in the edge but invariably come across a lot of free baits which have been discarded. Food for thought perhaps? It works for me and worked again in the match – more than once!
