Variety is the Spice of Life

Having landed the largest carp in one of the syndicates I’m a member of,  among a few other fish last week-end, I decided upon a change of scenery and a change of county this last week-end, so headed to Paradise Pit.

This is what happened, another successful weekend in poor moon phase conditions

The Largest in the Lake

DSC 0462

Once in a while we all get lucky and hook into a fish we really wanted to catch. Occasionally someone has the presence of mind to grab a camera and rush round to take a few action shots. Rarely do the two situations join together. Thanks Dave for capturing those exciting moments for me.

Which Bait for June?

Well I have been asked the same thing three times already this week, so thought I really should write a proper answer. Before I go any further though I can almost hear the scepticism spilling from mouths that I'm going to just turn this into an advert pushing the latest etc. Okay, but remember that if I give advice that doesn't catch fish, no-one is going to buy from me again. People forget that it is in my interest for you to catch as much as possible. So here goes...

More for Less

I have just come back from an interesting week on a lake in the Champagne Region of France, with my brother David. The weather forecast for the week and the catch reports I had been reading suggested that the week wouldn't be an easy one and that a large catch of carp was probably going to be out of the question as there had only been 3 carp caught from the whole lake on the week prior to our visit. But, careful baiting was to work a treat.

Changing Seasons

The seasons are well and truly changing and as we move into March, here is a late catch up from my angling over these past 3 months.

Best wishes

Extracts from my September Diary

My first Mangrove dawn after almost 10 years. Just how it always was.

After my six month obsession with Paradise Pit which had culminated in me landing another lake record from there, I felt I was ready for a bit of a change of scenery and fresh challenges.

Extracts from my Diary June 2016

IMG 3422

Well, I saw another month out, another month that had yet again been kind to me. So, it’s time to scan back through my dairy as in previous months and pick out some of the highlights. Well, I need to show that I still angle. A lot in the trade don’t, yet they manage to come up with new must have’s that have turned their angling around – yeah right!

Shaun Harrison Diary

diaryI stirred from my dream and was vaguely aware that daylight was creeping through my oak blinds. Suddenly, like a child on Christmas morning, I knew that I no longer needed to sleep for this morning was the morning I had waited so long and so patiently for. June the 16th and finally another 9 months of river angling available to me.

A quick wash, kettle on, a couple of slices of bread cut from the home baked loaf and toasted before being smeared with olive spread and Marmite and I was out the door, less than 15 minutes after opening my eyes.

Moon Phases and my April Diary

DSC 0103

I must apologize for the lateness of this April Blog. I had completed it and then discovered my close friend Jan Porter had sadly lost his brave and determined battle against cancer. It totally destroyed me and I held this piece back. I wanted to write about Jan but still I'm finding it hard to find the right words to say.

Strap your guitar on mate, find us some nice quiet water and if you see Brook, tell her I'll be back with you both one day.

So, here is what I wrote before I'd received the devastating news that one of the best had been taken early...

March 2016 End of Season Barbel and Spring Carp

carp

A month that started on the rivers with prototype rods that needed putting through their paces and ended up on the still waters. Both running and still water were rather kind to me yet again.
