Catching back up Blog - a Diary entry
My last diary type blog ended with…
“The following day I put a couple more nice fish on the bank, so August had started off sweet. Again the Spicy Spirulina has really opened my eyes this summer. During real hot conditions when I wouldn’t really have expected to catch on the bottom, they have still sailed away.”
Beginning of August since my last entry – I do apologise.
My feet don’t seem to have touched the floor, but then again, that tends to be quite normal for me during my favourite time of the year. If I could split the years into quarters, into my quarters, then September, October and November would be my favourite season bar none. I always feel an urgency to get out there and enjoy every last moment of it and now I’m seeing that time passing and the start of what I term as winter about to hit us, I’d better try and get caught back up.
Photo storage and early August memories
Having moved into September I was starting to sort through and back up my pictures from August. My pictures mean a lot to me, so I make sure they are stored in at least 3 different places. I never copy over memory cards as they are so cheap when you compare them to how much camera film and developing used to cost. So when the cards are full, I simply store them away and start to use a fresh one.
I also have my pictures stored on the PC and at the end of each month I have a little session saving each month’s pictures from the cameras and telephone’s onto memory sticks. If my computer crashes or a memory card gets damaged, I still have access to my pictures. I also have a fair few on Instagram as well as facebook if in an absolute emergency.
Anyway, I was starting to go through them and as usual the memories have flooded back. I thought I’d share one of these as I have not done a diary bit for a long while now...
The fish were on naturals (and avoiding the bird life).
The birds were real troublesome on the baits. This is how I turned around a possible blank by making a few changes to my approach. Nothing was getting caught at all, but soon the indicators were flying.
Variety is the Spice of Life
Having landed the largest carp in one of the syndicates I’m a member of, among a few other fish last week-end, I decided upon a change of scenery and a change of county this last week-end, so headed to Paradise Pit.

Once in a while we all get lucky and hook into a fish we really wanted to catch. Occasionally someone has the presence of mind to grab a camera and rush round to take a few action shots. Rarely do the two situations join together. Thanks Dave for capturing those exciting moments for me.
Why two different baits?
A few subjects crop up over and over again and I often find myself answering the same questions. One of these is why do I advocate using 2 different baits at the same time?
Extracts from my Diary June 2016
Well, I saw another month out, another month that had yet again been kind to me. So, it’s time to scan back through my dairy as in previous months and pick out some of the highlights. Well, I need to show that I still angle. A lot in the trade don’t, yet they manage to come up with new must have’s that have turned their angling around – yeah right!
When it all came right. - The Mangrove Record Brace
Well, this tale comes in two parts really with the first part starting on Wednesday 11th July 2001 back in the days when the only place I really wanted to be was the infamous Mangrove Swamp in deepest, darkest, Shropshire.
How I loved the peace and solitude found at this historic water and totally true to form I was the only person there that day. Just me, the tackle and anything that nature wanted to push my way. As it happens nature was pushing a very strong and very cold wind my way, but what did it matter? There wasn’t another place I would have rather been sat at during that part of my life other than the Lightning Tree swim on a deserted Mangrove.
The Problem With Freezer Baits
One of the problems of ready made freezer baits is that they can be nearing the end of their most effective life by the time the consumer buys a ‘fresh?’ bag.
