Heavy Drinking Session

I’ve been preparing my session baits and in this blog I shall describe how and what I do to try and give myself a bit more of an edge.

I’ve spoken to Shaun about many things, so that I can try to get the full potential out of the baits, as I feel that a lot of time and effort has gone into the development of these products and it is imperative to use them in the way that they are designed for. 

My fishing this year is to be split between fishing on the river and a new syndicate lake I’ve joined, so I’ve decided to fish with 4 different baits.

Questrami and the Magnum White are my choice for the river and the Spicy Spirulina and Rahja Spice for the lake. As there are no nuisance fish in the lake, I’m hitting it with a mixture of 10mm and 15mm baits along with chopped baits, all of which I have given a drink.

The river will see 15mm chopped baits with a few whole baits and paste covered hook baits with the option of upping the sizes to the 20mm should the bream become too much of a nuisance.

 

I’ve sourced some large 9 litre clip lid boxes which allows me to put a full kilo bag into the box and the baits only being a maximum of 2 deep so as to always be in the glug.

The glug is mixed with water at 150 ml water to 50 ml of glug and poured over the baits giving them a good shake and then left to slowly drink in the liquid. Every time I pass the boxes I give them a quick shake and continue to do this for 3 days.

 

After this time I bag the baits back up in their resealing bags they are supplied in and then stack them into the freezer, this allows the glug to be really absorbed into the baits whilst the freezing process happens.

Once the baits are in the freezer, any residue that's left in the boxes is then decanted into a pot and saved until an amount of 200ml is collected and then this is reused with another kilo of bait.

 

I’ve chopped and glugged 2 kilos of each flavour and also glugged 2 kilos of whole 15mm baits and 3 kilos of 10mm baits in the Spicy Spirulina and Rahja Spice for the lake, as I love fishing with small baits and will be fishing over the matching micro feed using tiny pva bags.

This method allows me to always have 22 kilo of glugged bait in the freezer so that I’m prepared for any option. Once bait is taken from the freezer it is then simply a case of glugging up a couple of kilos a week to replenish my freezer, this is taken from my shelves of which I always try to have at least 3 kg of everything I use. The latest glugged baits are placed at the bottom of the freezer, so that I’m always using the oldest glugged baits first and can easily keep an eye on my stock levels.

Quest are always rolling up very fresh bait and with the bait always turning up within 48 hrs of placing an order I can always keep a good supply in, I always like to have 40-50 kg of bait in my possession. I know this might sound a lot or even expensive, but once I’m at this level then all I need to order is a small “top up” amount once a month

We all have limited fishing time so to me it is very important to be prepared, all of this allows me to be at the waterside and fishing without wasting any time and this to me gives me an extra 5-10% baits in the water time, which can make all the difference.
