20 mm Boilies in the Winter.

IMG 3188

It isn't just small tiny baits you will catch on during the cold winter months. During a time when many scale their baits down, it can be a lovely little edge going the opposite way.

Here is yet another message I have received confirming that Poisson Chat really do not like the ingredients we use in our ANTI POISSON CHAT BAIT Pineapple Crush.

British record Carp – How things have moved on.

Albert Buckleys Record Mirror

Since posting a picture of Albert Buckley’s record carp from Mapperley Reservoir on my Facebook page I have spent a fair bit of time thinking about this – particularly the comments regarding the fish being killed.

I don’t think a lot of the younger anglers realise how relatively new the situation of returning big fish is. I guess most would be surprised if I pointed out that the first record carp to be returned alive to the water here in the U.K. was Chris Yates 51lb 8oz fish in 1980 (that wasn’t accepted as a record for some time as it had been returned). Not long ago is it?

Winter Bait Choice is Critical

There was a comment on facebook the other day that I responded to and thought I should add it here too.

Someone asked how important I think bait is.

Bonus Perch Between Carp Feeding Times

Why not have a cast with a lighter rod out of the main feeding times to see what else lurks in the water you are carp fishing? I did and was amazed at my results.

Pre-baiting for barbel and chub

IMG 6951

Question:

Hi Shaun,

I fish a small river in Berkshire which holds some very big Chub and Barbel.

Earlier this year I brought several kgs of Rahja Spice 10 mm to feed and some 15 mm as hook baits, I also purchased a few pots of you paste and dip.

The question is Shaun, what is the best way to approach barbel with this type of bait?

I have pre-baited a couple of kilos in three swims, should I be using pellet as well?

One thing I have noticed is the paste is a bit dry, how can i make it a bit more tacky, I think the chub love and just pulling it off how ever i mount it.

Cheers

Steve

Shaun’s Diary – Part 4 Another Bank Holiday – Spent on the Bank!

More from Shaun's Diary...

Saturday 30th April – Another Bank Holiday week-end.

At one time Bank Holidays meant only one thing for me – get out on the bank! This bank holiday had an extra day tagged onto it for the Royal wedding giving us from the Thursday to the following Tuesday with most factories closed here in the U.K.

This morning I rose at ‘silly o’clock’ and drove my way back over to Grenville. I really do have the bug for it at the moment despite knowing it was going to be busy but with a few due to leave this morning I would at least get the option of somewhere to angle.

River Season Opening Week-end

S1080006 Copy

Well finally I made the drive down to Bristol to meet up with Nige Cobham to celebrate the first week-end of the river season on the Bristol Avon. The invite had originally come five years ago and one thing and another kept seeing it pushed aside, but this year we were both determined to make the trip happen and what better time than the start of the season?
